‘I Come In Peace’ – The March of the Giants
I Come In Peace captures the extraordinary gathering of Giant Spider Crabs (Leptomithrax gaimardii) as they converge in the shallow, cool waters of southern Australia. This breathtaking spectacle occurs annually, when thousands of crabs migrate en masse across the ocean floor to moult ~ shedding their old shells in a vulnerable yet vital act of renewal.
In this image, a single crab commands the frame, its armour worn and textured like the seabed itself, standing as both guardian and participant in this ancient ritual. The scene is at once alien and familiar ~ a reminder of the powerful rhythms that continue beneath the waves, unseen by most.
I Come In Peace is a testament to nature’s scale and synchronicity ~ a portrait of strength, transformation, and survival written in sand and shell.
