‘Cruising’ ~ Silent Authority

Cruising captures a solitary Grey Reef Shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) gliding effortlessly through the water in a stark black and white composition. The absence of colour sharpens focus on the shark’s streamlined form, exuding quiet dominance and composure.

Grey reef sharks are highly social within their own species, often forming groups, yet they assert dominance over most other sharks sharing the Indo-Pacific coral reefs. Despite their confident presence, they are vulnerable — threatened by overfishing due to their restricted habitat, low reproductive rate, and late maturity.

Currently, insufficient data exists to fully understand their population trends, adding urgency to their conservation. Cruising is both an homage to their understated power and a reminder of what we stand to lose in our oceans.
