‘Eyes Forward’ ~ Strength in Stillness

Eyes Forward captures a powerful moment in the Sumatran rainforest ~ a herd of elephants pausing to drink with their gaze unified and steady. Photographed during a 2010 expedition with the Sumatran Ranger Project, this image reflects the quiet strength and collective awareness of these remarkable animals.

Sumatran elephants are a critically endangered subspecies of the Asian elephant, found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Smaller than their African cousins, they play a vital role in maintaining forest ecosystems, yet face immense threats from deforestation, human conflict and habitat fragmentation. Eyes Forward is both a tribute and a reminder of what’s at stake and the enduring spirit of a species fighting for its future.
