‘Hanging Out’ ~ Comfort in Company
Hanging Out captures a heartwarming scene of three orphaned Bornean Orangutans (Pongo Pygmaeus) nestled together in a hammock, enjoying a moment of calm connection and companionship. Their limbs drape lazily over one another, expressions relaxed, embodying the simple joy of being together.
In the wild, orangutans are largely solitary ~ but in rehabilitation centres, especially among orphans, these bonds become vital. The hammock becomes more than a resting place ~ it’s a cradle of safety, healing and emotional support.
Hanging Out is a gentle reminder of the resilience of these young individuals and the deep need for connection that all great apes share ~ a moment of quiet comfort in the journey back to the wild.

This image was taken with respect and care, supporting vital conservation efforts to protect and rehabilitate one of the world’s most endangered great apes.
