‘Headbutt’ ~ Curiosity Meets Contact

Headbutt captures the breathtaking moment just before a Humpback Whale (Megaptera Novaeagliae) ~ all 30 tonnes of gentle curiosity ~ makes unexpected contact with camera and photographer. With one eye fixed on the lens and its massive head approaching, the whale’s presence is both humbling and exhilarating.

Taken in the open waters of Tonga, this close encounter reveals the intelligent, inquisitive nature of humpback whales. Despite their immense size, they move with surprising grace, often approaching divers with a mix of caution and playfulness.
