‘Ride Share’ ~ Orangutans at Rest
Ride Share captures an unexpected moment of connection as four young orangutans share a wheelbarrow ~ a makeshift sanctuary far from their natural treetop home. The word “orangutan” means “person of the forest” in Malay, and these gentle primates, found only in Borneo and Sumatra, spend nearly 90% of their lives in the canopy. Due to widespread deforestation and habitat loss, scenes like this ~ orangutans grounded and grouped together ~ reflect the vital role of rehabilitation centres in their survival. This intimate image is a quiet reminder of both the vulnerability and resilience of these forest dwellers.

FUN FACT: When on the ground, orangutans walk on all fours, supporting themselves with their palms or curled fists ~ a movement known as “quadrupedal knuckle-walking.”
