‘Tell Your Story Walking’ ~ Strength in Motion

Tell Your Story Walking captures the commanding presence of a Sumatran Bull Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) striding directly toward the camera through a shallow river. Photographed during a 2008 journey into the Sumatran rainforest with the Sumatran Ranger Project, this powerful image embodies both majesty and vulnerability — a rare encounter with one of the world’s most endangered giants.

Sumatran elephants are a critically endangered subspecies of the Asian elephant, found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Smaller than their African relatives, they play a vital role as “gardeners of the forest” by dispersing seeds and shaping their ecosystems. Yet today, their survival is under severe threat from habitat loss, deforestation and human/wildlife conflict.

Tell Your Story Walking is a portrait of strength and a poignant reminder of fragility. It's also an urgent call to honour and protect these extraordinary beings before their story fades.
